There is always something interesting happening at Hampstead Academy. Check out some of the amazing things our staff and students are up to!
Video ListFor the past two weeks, the Hampstead Academy Maker Space and Art Studio have been lively with activity in preparation for a Lunar New Year Celebration. The Chinese program worked closely to script a Dragon Dance and even the youngest students learned a Chinese New Year song. Using traditional bamboo techniques art teacher Andy Moerlein learned in residence in Taiwan, the students in grades Pre-Kindergarten through Sixth built a 40-foot long dragon. Each grade contributed during their class period to complete the school-wide project. Students used sewing machines, hand stitching, and hot glue to piece together hand-painted scales and bright design details onto their monumental jolly dragon. In brisk morning sun, the entire school gathered to parade their creation, sing and welcome in the New Year.Author:Length:
Students in grades five and six used stop-motion photography to record a monarch emerging from its chrysalis. This real-world application of technology to record events as they are happening is an amazing tool for scientific discovery and part of learning every day.Author:Length:
