Dear Colleagues, Parents, Alumni & Friends,
With the start of school upon us I wanted to introduce to you to our new faculty members and let you know of a few familiar faces who made a change in their responsibilities.
Maddy Basso joined us in October 2012 as the Associate Teacher in second grade, and Pia Norton came on board as our Director of Admissions in February of 2013. Chris Field, who was an associate teacher in fifth grade last year, will have his own fifth grade classroom this year. Jenn Dawley, our Librarian, will add Lunchroom & Recess Supervisor responsibilities, help Chris DiMicelli update news and events on the school website and work with Pia Norton on press releases. Marci Crowley returns to us as an Associate Teacher in third grade, and she will be part of the After School Care team with June DeMarco. Drew Steadman will take over the administrative and lead teaching responsibilities for the Athletic and PE Department. Fran Stewart has agreed to add Coordinator responsibilities for the Early Childhood Center in addition to Grades 1 & 2.
It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to the new members of our Faculty team here at Hampstead Academy.
Kate Barlow will take over as the Lead Teacher in Kindergarten. Kate recently graduated with a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education and she has been working in the early childhood field since graduating. Kate’s passion is to create lessons that both educate and engage her students, and her favorite part about teaching is seeing the look on the faces of her students when they are enjoying an activity she planned for them.
Kaleigh Liupakka recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Psychology as well as a minor in Art. Kaleigh will be the Associate Teacher in the PreK program, and she will teach Art classes to students in Kindergarten-Grade 2. Kaleigh is passionate about providing students with new experiences that are exciting and engaging. She strives to offer students opportunities to express themselves through creativity. She also believes that it is vital for students to be exposed to lessons that integrate multiple subjects and areas of development, in order to have a strong educational foundation to build upon throughout life.
Peter Demeritt has a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology Pedagogy (Physical Education), and will complete a Master of Art and Teaching degree with a focus on Education and Health in December of 2013. He joins us as an Associate Physical Education Teacher and Coach. Peter believes that it is vital to view every student as an individual and value their strengths, character, and identity through the education process. He wants each child to have the opportunity to blossom through an inclusive atmosphere in a variety of physical activities.
Gail Pellegrino comes to us with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education along with a Master’s degree in Creative Arts & Learning. She will be responsible for the music program which includes general music classes, choir and band. Gail is committed to participation in the arts because she believes it expands students’ vision and draws vital connections between the classroom and the outside world. She hopes to encourage precise observation and invention while inspiring discussion and stimulating innovative thought. Attuning students to think outside their normal parameters of experience and responding thoughtfully are essential skills in today’s society. Gail hopes to grow a thriving private lesson program in addition to developing great opportunities within band, general music, and choir here at Hampstead Academy.
I feel fortunate that these terrific educators have decided to join us here at Hampstead Academy, and I have already seen a positive impact and contribution from them in the first few faculty meetings. I hope you will be sure to introduce yourself when you have the chance and join me in welcoming our new colleagues to the school. I wish you and everyone else in your family a wonderful start to this school year.
